We have several artistes, why Bobi Wine?
I grew up listening to his music, since he started out with hits like Bam Bam. His music mirrors my own life. He sings about the life of the common man on the street, especially the struggling low-income earner, who is contented nonetheless.

This, plus his way of life, inspires us to persevere. So I wanted to spend time with him and know whether he is as down-to-earth as his music portrays him.

Did you achieve your goal?
I definitely did. Being with him was something I loved. He is such a down-to-earth fellow. He lived up to my expectations and if there was any chance to spend more time with him, I would not miss it.

What did you enjoy most about spending time with him?
I shared in his celebrity status. Wherever we went, people waved at us and admired us. This made me gasp with joy and satisfaction.

So how would you describe Bobi Wine?
He is a loving parent; I met him at Time to Play, where he had gone to drop his children off to play with other children. He is a landlord; I went with him to Kamwokya where he collected rent arrears from his tenants.

He is an investor; he took me to his One Love Beach in Busaabala, and walked me around the beach before hosting me to a sumptuous meal.

Anything you talked about in particular?
Yes. We did talk about how he lived in the ghetto; his dreams and how he acquired the One Love Beach despite opposition from other investors. He also told me how he loves his children and his wife very much.

Is that the Bobi Wine you knew?
The Bobi I knew was one who was associated with bad things. However, the Bobi Wine I met was different. He was very nice, respectful, not pretentious and a man of action.

If he says ‘no’, it will be a ‘no’. I discovered that he is a very hardworking and hands-on man; so much so that he does not want to be idle. Interestingly, he is very informed. He knows politics, economics, music, business and quotes famous authors.

What will stick in your mind about meeting him?
I will remember every single moment, right from the time I met him dropping off his children, to his office; ghetto and to his beach with his wife Barbie Itungo. It will stay on my mind, the way he kept introducing me to his friends as his lovely fan.
