KITGUM Woman MP Beatrice Anywar Atim has said her meeting with President Yoweri Museveni over the weekend was not political.

This followed media reports showing Anywar shaking hands with Museveni at one of his rallies in Amiya Anyima sub-county in Kitgum district.

This, Anywar said, had raised speculations among her fellow members of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) that she might have crossed to the NRM.

Addressing journalists at the FDC headquarters in Kampala yesterday, she said it was her responsibility as the area MP to welcome the sitting President.

Anywar said the main reason she met the President was to inform him about the two tractors that he had given to the women of Kitgum and Lamwo districts, but were handed to the NRM Women’s League in the area.

She asked the President to give the tractors to the women of Lamwo and Kitgum.

“I assure my people and FDC that an intelligent Acholi girl like me cannot be cheap to join a party which my people in Acholi do not believe in. NRM has to fight hard for the vote in our region,” Anywar said.

She stressed that Acholi region was facing problems of poor infrastructure, poor health facilities, high levels of poverty and poor education facilities which the Government has failed to address.
