ABED Bwanika, the People’s Development Party leader, has suspended his presidential campaigns.

“I need assurance from the security organs that no more disruptions will ensue at our rallies, before I resume my campaigns,” Bwanika said in a statement issued last evening.

He registered his complaint yesterday with the Electoral Commission (EC) chairperson, Badru Kiggundu.

Bwanika said his campaign rallies had twice been disrupted by the Police in Masaka and Lira districts.

In a statement, Bwanika said on November 10, the Masaka district Police commander (DPC), Titus Byarugaba, disorganised his rally at the Mayor’s Gardens.

“I secured the said ground from Masaka Municipal Council and the DPC was accordingly informed 48 hours before the rally. But under his command, the anti-riot Police were deployed and my supporters dispersed,” he said.

In Lira, Bwanika said the DPC, Richard Aruk, and resident district commissioner disrupted his rally at Coronation Park.

He said he sustained injuries after being hit by stones.

Bwanika said his campaign team engaged the Police in Lira. He added that the Police later withdrew to a nearby petrol station after dispersing his supporters.

Bwanika said the Police in Lira were informed of the rally 96 hours before his arrival by the regional coordinator of his party, Margaret Otire.
