FOUR candidates have been nominated for the Terego MP race. They are FDC’s Kassiano Wadri, who is the incumbent, Obiga Mario Kania of NRM, Peter Kamure, an independent candidate, and Ambassador Harold Acema of UPC.

Wadri, who is seeking a third term, promised to continue with effective representation in Parliament.

Describing himself as scorched grass that is giving headache to President Yoweri Museveni, Wadri said he would concentrate on pushing the Government on health care, education, agriculture and energy for infrastructural development, if re-elected.

Kania, who is trying to reclaim the seat he lost in 2001, said Terego needed a change of leaders at the constituency level.

“Today we have began the process of liberating Terego from the forces of underdevelopment. I give you hope that you will recover in just five years what you missed during the last 10 years” he said.

Kania accused Wadri of alienating the county from the Government through what he called rigid and aimless opposition.

Kamure stood as an independent candidate after pulling out of the NRM primary elections.

He said he would unite the people and bring about development in the constituency.

“Gone are the days of divisions based on political parties. From here, we are taking the challenge right to Terego because we need change,” he said as Wadri cheered him.

The two hugged after Kamure left the pavilion that had been set up for the nominations at Arua Police Grounds.

Wadri then joined other nominated FDC candidates John Arumadri Drazu for Madi Okollo, Lois Dramadri for Vurra county, Christine Abia for Arua district, Amina Atako for Arua municipality and Bernard Atiku for Ayivu county.

The FDC nominees addressed their supporters at Arua Hill Boma Grounds.

Kamure and Kania proceeded to Terego county headquarters, where they separately addressed their supporters.

The other candidate cleared by the Electoral Commission yesterday morning was Habib Jogo Asega, the flag-bearer for the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) in Arua Municipality, and Animu Angupale, who threw away her NRM robes to vie for Arua district Woman MP seat on the PPP ticket.

Dr. Gadson Gabriel Aridru, the NRM flag-bearer for Arua municipality, was due for nomination in the afternoon.
