THIRD deputy premier and internal affairs minister Kirunda Kivejinja was today nominated to again contest against Abdu Katuntu (FDC) for the Bugweri County parliamentary seat in Iganga district.

Kivejinja who arrived at the district headquarters at 11.10am was shortly afterwards declared nominated by the returning officer Johnson Higenyi.

“I have perused through Kirunda Kivejinja’s documents and I am satisfied that he is qualified to contest for the Bugweri seat on NRM ticket,” Higenyi declared to applause from supporters.

Katuntu, the incumbent MP who was nominated on Thursday claimed that the people of Bugweri still had a lot of trust in him.

“I have beaten the entire NRM machinery organised against me before and will definitely do it again,” Katuntu assured.

Kivejinja argued that the NRM has since the last defeat made inroads into the hitherto FDC stronghold of Bugweri and victory was obvious this time round.

“Eng. Badru Kiggundu’s voter register shows that Bugweri has 65,000 registered voters. I can assure you that over half that number voted for me in the NRM primaries which is evidence of my impending victory,” Kivejinja explained.

Also nominated on independent ticket was incumbent Iganga woman MP Beatrice Magoola. She lost the NRM party ticket to Oliver Kabale at primaries earlier this year.

“I have what it takes to retain my constituency and will emerge triumphant at all costs,” Magoola said.
