THE Uganda People’s Congress presidential flag-bearer, Dr. Olara Otunnu, has praised the UPDF, saying many of its officers have Uganda at heart.

Otunnu, who missed all his rallies in Kanungu district, promised to fully professionalise the army and security services.

He was scheduled to address rallies at Kambuga trading centre, Kihiihi town council and Kanungu district headquarters but arrived after 7:00pm.

People started arriving at the venues as early as 8:30am after the organisers assured them that Otunnu was on his way from Rukungiri district.

Otunnu, however, took his campaign to Kanungu Broadcasting Services.

“Museveni has been exposed and he has nothing to offer Ugandans any more. It is high time he is removed from power so that the rule of law can return to the country,” he said.

Asked by the moderator, Alex Tumuramye, if he would carry out revenge on his adversaries, Otunnu said he would instead demand accountability for state funds misused during the NRM government.

He said he would not go to court if defeated, adding that if the polls were not free and fair, he would collect signatures from aggrieved Ugandans to remove the government from power.

In Rukungiri where Otunnu missed a rally, the crowd was addressed by party chairman Maj. Edward Rurangaranga.

He spoke against FDC presidential candidate Kiiza Besigye.

“In 2001, we took our bull (Besigye) to the market and we failed to get buyers. We did the same in 2006, but nobody turned up to buy it. Let us now change the bull since we have many in a kraal,” Rurangaranga said.

“Don’t tell me you like Besigye when there is no MP from here who is on the FDC ticket,” he added.
