THE Kamuswaga of Kooki, Apollo Sansa Kabumbuli II, on Saturday wed Rebecca Tulituuka at Namirembe Cathedral in Kampala amid tight security.

The cultural leader and Tulituuka, said to be from Busoga, exchanged vows at 8:00am.

The couple was in church by 6:45am. Archbishop Livingstone Nkoyooyo presided over the ceremony.

Owing to the time the function started, very few people attended.

Security personnel were deployed at the church and on all roads leading to the cathedral. Police patrol trucks were part of the bridal motorcade.

New Vision’s sister paper, Bukedde, attributed the heavy police deployment to Kamusagwa’s former lovers, who had reportedly vowed to block the ceremony.

The former lovers were allegedly unhappy after Kamusagwa abandoned them for Tulituuka.

The cultural leader is said to have asked the Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura, for the security.

Other sources said some leaders in Kooki were unhappy that Kamuswaga had decided to marry a Musoga, leaving the Bakooki girls he often partied with.

The decision to hold the ceremony at Namirembe is said to have followed threats from Kamuswaga’s former girlfriends, who had vowed to sabotage the function if it was held in Rakai district.

Bukedde said Kamuswaga wanted to wed three years ago but his plans were delayed due to conflicts in his family over the potential wife and venue of the wedding.

Nkoyooyo appealed to the couple to be faithful to each other.

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Eng. John Baptist Walusimbi, represented Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi at the function.

In a message read by Prime Minister Apolo Nsibambi, President Yoweri Museveni hailed Kamuswaga for being a good example to his subjects.

The guests were hosted to a reception in Rakai.
