THE festive season comes once every year and this is a time to give, love, care for family and friends. It’s a season to be merry and rejoice with loved ones.

Does the festive season require any etiquette at home or in society?

My answer is “YES.” Men should acquire the necessary social skills needed during the holidays. This is the time you should show your wife, girlfriend, children, parents…etc your hidden softer side and social skills. Etiquette means code of conduct. And to be a gentleman, you have to have a proper way of conducting yourself in society and with your loved ones at home.

Here are some pointers on etiquette for men during this season.

Buy gifts for your loved ones A man can never go wrong this holiday by buying gifts for his wife, girlfriend or family. Giving a gift means you are thoughtful, caring and love that person. You would be surprised how a simple gift can put a big smile on a loved one’s face. But always remember, quality is better than quantity.

Get involved in house work
Instead of leaving dirty dishes for your wife or children to wash up, do it. It does not take anything away from you.

It will instead bring you lots of compliments from people around you. Sharing house work can also bring you and your wife/girlfriend closer. You will also be setting an example for your sons.

If you have saved enough money, take a holiday instead of doing what you do every year. What is the point of working so hard throughout the year and not spending any money on yourself and family? Take a trip to a place you have not been before.

Family time, not buddy time Some men prefer to go to bars till morning with their friends. But you need time with your family. There is so much a family can do together. You might be surprised to learn something new about your loved ones during the time you spend with them this holiday. You can engage in sports activities, plan a barbecue, host family parties; the list is endless.

Pampering your wife or girlfriend should also get onto your to-do list this festive season. Get your romantic side out. Take her to a salon and get her pampered from head to toe. Or you could buy her a lovely dress and accessories. Take her to a lovely restaurant for lunch or dinner, or go for a night out to one of your favourite spots. Make it memorable. Remember to always be a gentleman and shower her with love and care. You can never go wrong with this as a man. Have a merry Christmas.
