INTER Party Cooperation presidential candidate Kizza Besigye has asked the people of Karamoja not to vote for President Yoweri Museveni because he had failed to compensate them for the human lives and cattle lost to rustlers.

Besigye, who was campaigning in Moroto district on Sunday, said the people of Karamoja had suffered a lot and deserved the best.

“NRM should have compensated you by now because they have been in power for the last twenty five years. When I am voted into power, I will come and sit down with you until this area is on a proper course to development,”

At Tapac sub-county, Besigye promised to improve on health facilities, schools, roads, security and the economic lives of the Karimojong.
“In the past, Karamoja was inhabited by proud cattle keepers. Today, as I passed through it, I saw people selling charcoal and crashing stones. This must stop,” Besigye added.

Unlike in other regions of the country, Besigye’s security was beefed up in Karamoja by the local Police. At every rally, security operatives mounted circles around him.

Earlier in Nakapiripirit district where he promised to change the lives of the Karimojong should he gain political power.

In Namalu trading centre, the residents complained about the Government’s delay to compensate them for the cattle stolen and people killed by rustlers.

On Sunday, Besigye prayed at St Peters’ Church in Nakapiripirit town, where he told the congregation to respect God in whatever situation they were in, they were in.

“No matter your status in the community, rich or poor you must respect the almighty God and his decisions. You should also let the young ones get closer to God and serve him because they are tomorrow’s generation,” he calmly told the Christians.

He added that since we believed in the same God, we should work together.

Besigye addressed rallies in Nakapiripirit town council before heading to Tokora.
