A Primary school teacher in Tororo has been arrested for allegedly defacing the campaign posters of a parliamentary candidate.

Barry Godfrey Osinde, a teacher at Kiyeyi Primary School, in Nabuyoga sub-county, was arrested on Saturday after tearing the posters of Budama south parliamentary candidate Jackob Oboth Oboth.

The officer in charge of political affairs and electoral offences, George Mawerere, said Osinde would be prosecuted over the matter.

Osinde becomes the third person to be arrested in two weeks for defacing campaign posters.

Last week, Bosco Wangota and Emmanuel Nsubuga were charged for defacing the posters of president Museveni in Tororo town.

Under the electoral offences law, the suspect, will be charged with defacing campaign posters and faces a fine not exceeding sh2.4m, a jail term not exceeding 5 years, or both.

Mawerere said Osinde, a supporter of labour state minister, Dr Emmanuel Otaala, intentionally tore the poster after picking a quarrel with Oboth’s supporters.

Oboth, who is contesting under the independent ticket, is the main challenger of Otaala in the Budama south parliamentary race
