THE newly refurbished Entebbe Cricket Oval will host the African Premier League in June next year, a Twenty20 tournament involving six countries.

African Cricket Council CEO Kassim Suliman announced the development during the commissioning of the new sh250m refurbished Entebbe club house on Saturday. The commissioning was also attended by state minister for sports Charles Bakkabulindi.

“When I was here two years ago, it was a dilapidated facility but we saw a big potential after looking at the ground and outfield. That is when the ACC and ICC, together with the government decided to partner and develop it into what it is today,” Suliman said.

He said with such a facility Uganda will soon start hosting international matches starting with the African Premier League final. The tournament will be played at Lugogo and Kyambogo, with Entebbe hosting the final next year.

Uganda Cricket Association chairman Kato Ssebbaale said the facility was a pride to all stakeholders that include Cricket Uganda, Africa Cricket Association and the International Cricket Council.

“I’m happy with how it has been developed. We have done our best in creating the quality needed and this is probably our answer to Lords,” Ssebbaale commented, referring to the famous oval in England.

The Jinja ground will be the next to develop as UCA continues with its regional efforts to popularise the game.
