By December 13, beef prices in Katwe, Owino and Nakasero markets had gone up. A kilo that was priced at sh5,000 retail and sh4,500 wholesale shot to sh6,000 retail and sh5,500 wholesale.

The vendors in Katwe Market say the supply of beef has also reduced, forcing them to hike the prices. However, in some markets like Nakawa and Kalerwe the price of a kilogramme remained at sh5,000 retail price and sh4500 wholesale price.

Vendors in Kalerwe Market say their prices remained constant, if they hiked the price yet they are near the abattoir, customers would instead buy the beef from the abattoir.

Silver fish (mukene)
Silver fish prices have continued to fall as the supply increases in Kampala markets. In Katwe and Owino Market a sack of 100kg that cost sh180,000 a month ago now costs sh140,000.

This fall in price further pushed the retail sale prices down.
The tin of mukene that cost sh3,000 now costs sh2,500. The one that cost sh2,500 now costs sh2,000.

In Kalerwe, the same sack costs sh150,000 from sh180,000.
