ARCHBISHOP Henry Luke Orombi of the Church of Uganda has urged Ugandans to pray for Sudan as it goes for a referendum.

“Southern Sudan has suffered for 50 years. Let us pray that God will lay his hand on them because if Sudan is not at peace, we are not,” Orombi said.

He was presiding over the Christmas celebrations at All Saints Cathedral at Nakasero.

Orombi prayed for peace in Uganda as the country prepares for next year’s general elections.

He also warned that candidates who were planning to use witchcraft to attain victory, those planning violence and those planning to rig would be punished by God.

Orombi urged officials who had stolen government funds and other resources to repent.

He said such ills annoy God and had brought curses to the nation. “We should honour God so that he honours our country,” he advised.

The Archbishop also castigated people who, he said, had relegated the meaning of Christmas to indulge in making merry by eating and drinking more than they usually do.

He said Christians should pray to God in order to receive redemption.

Orombi also announced that the construction of the new All Saints Cathedral and the Church House had begun.
