A total of sh120m has been earmarked for strengthening the decentralisation policy in Apac district for the last two quarters of the 2010/2011 financial year.

Addressing journalists at his office on Monday, the chief administrative officer, Andrew Leru, revealed that the programme — funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) with support from the Ministry of Local Government — had urged staff to budget and draw a work plan for capacity building activities. These are to be implemented from January to June next year.

Leru said the five-year programme, code-named ‘Strengthening Decentralization for Sustainability (SDS)’, would improve service delivery through coordinating activities at district and sub-county level.

“We are grateful to USAID for funding the SDS programme, which supports social sector service delivery. It will help us fill development gaps in the area,” Leru said.

He revealed that while implementing the programme, the staff would also institute innovative approaches to sustain social service delivery.
