THE Ministry of Works engineering director, Lawrence Lutaaya, perished when he rammed his Pajero UAD 600T into an incoming trailer in Seeta on the Kampala-Jinja Road minutes into the new year.
Lutaaya, 53, had worked in the ministry since 1976.
In another accident, Pantaleo Mondo, a resident of Busabaga, Lugazi town council, died on the spot when an omnibus UED 100E collided head-on with a pick-up truck near Mbalala trading centre on the Kampala-Jinja highway.
The Police identified the injured who were taken to Kawolo Hospital as Aisha Nansamba, 28, a resident of Deeba, Asaba Busingye and her one-year-old daughter Aisha Nansamba, Paul Kigongo, Caroline Achieng, Grace Acam, Afua Nabule and Dr. Joachim Ziwa, the medical superintendent of the hospital.
Mukono Police Station officer in-charge of traffic, Sam Eyotu, said the cause of the accident was reckless driving and speeding.
“The driver of the Pajero and omnibus wanted to overtake at a junction and lost control before they swerved into incoming vehicles,” he said.
Eyotu warned motorists against speeding, saying it has been the major cause of accidents in the district.
