FIFA referees will have to do without badges for the time being as local body FUFA is yet to receive them from Zurich, FIFA’s headquarters.

FUFA secretary Haruna Mawanda confirmed this yesterday. “FIFA has written to inform us that all names sent for the FIFA badges for the year 2003, have been approved.”

The new faces to receive FIFA badges include Fred Mufta, who is replacing the retired Siraje Katono. Hussein Bugembe will replace retired David Katabira and Yahaya Kiti takes up Mansoor Kimumwe’s badge after getting involved in an accident last year.

Nine centre referees, including two women, and nine assistants with two women, will be judging matches without badges until they are dispatched by FIFA.

The list: centre referees; Yusuf Awuye, Arthur Bukenya, Fred Kakooza, Festus Kirumira, Haruna Kebba, Mohammed Ssegonga, Fred Mufta, Catherine Adipo and Margret Kubingi Kebba. Assistant refs: Ali Tomusange, Haruna Mpangire, Nelson Mubanda, Asuman Kityo, Fred Wanyama, Hussein Bugembe, Yahaya Kiti, Frolence Ssemambo, Rosebell Rwamuyamba. Waiting list: Roberto Bukenya, Samuel Kayondo, Hillary Kimbugwe.
