THE commander of the UPDF 2nd Division, Col. Potel Kivuna, (right) has criticised the Congolese rebels for involving the UPDF in their political misunderstandings.
An officer of Congolese RCD-National, Deodonne Kahasa, told the press in Kampala recently that some top UPDF officers were responsible for the current fighting in the north-eastern Congolese town of Beni.
He alleged that UPDF generals were getting proceeds from Kasindi border post. Kasindi is about four kilometres inside the Congo from the Mpondwe border post.
Kivuna, who is the overall overseer of withdrawing troops from the Congo, said on Tuesday that no Uganda soldier was involved in the Beni fighting.
“We left Beni town several months ago. No soldiers of UPDF have returned to that area. Let them fight their own senseless wars but they should not involve the UPDF,” Kivuna said.
