NEC Meets Museveni Over Parties

THE Movement’s National Executive committee (NEC) met President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday to discuss the future of the Movement system and that of political parties.

THE Movement’s National Executive committee (NEC) met President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday to discuss the future of the Movement system and that of political parties.
“We met to brief him about our findings. We didn’t complete and it was adjourned,†a source who attended the meeting at State House Nakasero said.
NEC is the Movement’s policy organ.
The Presidential Press Secretary, Mary Okurut, said the meeting was adjourned until January 21. No details were available but other sources said the committee had no recommendations on opening up political space as demanded by some liberal Movementists and multipartyists.
It instead referred the matter to the Constitutional Review Commission now gathering views from the public. The committee is said to have recommended strengthening the Movement system.
