POLICE in Kasese are hunting for unknown people believed to have gang-raped a student before strangling her.

Nyakato Isebayanda, 20, who sat for her A-Level exams last year at Western College in Mbarara town, was discovered dead on Saturday morning.

The DPC Kasese, Wilfred Kwesiga, said Nyakato’s body was recovered near the Margharita Hotel junction on the Kasese-Kilembe road.

Marks found on her body suggested she had been raped by a gang of men.

But the spot where the body was recovered did not show any sign of strangling suggesting she could have been gang-raped and killed before the assailants dumped her body on the road.

Family sources said Nyakato left home on January 8 with her uncle who accompanied her to Kilembe hospital, where she was supposed to have been medically examined due to a boil that had developed on one of her legs.

Her uncle, Elisha Mutunzi, reportedly left her in a queue at the hospital and told her to spend a night at her aunt’s home in Kilembe town.

But Nyakato went back to Kasese town.
