KONY rebels on Friday night struck Pece village near Pece War Memorial Stadium, Gulu municipality and burnt two vehicles belonging to the District Health Inspector Obadia- Lalobo.
This occured just about 400 metres from the Holy Rosary Catholic Church where a funeral service for the Kony’s father; Obol Luigi was to take place the next day.
Residents who thronged Lalobo’s compound on Saturday morning said the rebels, estimated at over 50 fighters, struck the area at about 10:00PM.
They found the two vehicles, an omni-bus registration number UAB 583K and a saloon car, Toyota Corolla, registration number UAA 108J parked at the compound near two houses.
“The rebels collected dry grasses from a nearby home, packed it round the omni-bus and set it ablaze. The flames caught the saloon car,” the residents said.
Both vehicles were burnt beyond repair according to the wreckages seen by The New Vision.
The district health inspector, Obadia-Lalobo, said he saw the rebels all over his compound with some guarding captives whom he said looked tied with their hands tied behind them.
“We really don’t know what the government soldiers (UPDF) are doing. Rebels are now free to invade the municipality, right in the heart of the town, burn vehicles and break into kiosks and even abduct several people and go away freely,” awitness said. Ends
