The perfect gift any Ugandan musician gets is the airing of his new song on the FM stations and the subsequent coverage in the fine pages of our local dailies. After achieving exactly that, one sits back and starts enjoying what his counterparts in the west relish— the bucks and fame.

Upcoming reggae artist Chiinji (Godfrey Kiyingi) has already produced a single and it’s already hitting big on the airwaves of Simba and Dembe FM among other stations. His song Bwaganza is already on the countdown of these stations. It has already crossed borders, playing on the Dar es Salaam based East African FM station.

In this song, released about a month ago, Chiinji sings about love; not the ‘I will always love him or her nonsense,’ but forgiveness. In case one lover makes a mistake, the singer asks the other to learn to forgive. Surely, this youth has a melodious voice. The producers didn’t kill it either. This single was produced by Kiwa and Lalas of the Market Street based Truevine Studios.

“I am happy this single hasn’t flopped like the others,” he excitedly says. “I am now inspired. I have started working on my full album with twelve tracks. All reggae fans should just wait for it next year.”

Though this is his most successful song, Chiinji says he has already recorded a number of singles which include Face Ye that was produced by Frank Mbalire in 2000.
