President Yoweri Museveni has said the Domestic Relations Bill has been delayed for scrutiny so that more comprehensive clauses are added to ensure families are firmly and happily rooted.

Museveni was speaking during the wedding of Eamonn Joseph Ryan to Princess Keza Caroline Korwizi Barigye at Rubaga Cathedral in Kampala on Saturday.

Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala administered the marriage vows to the groom from Ireland and bride, the daughter of Prince John Barigye of Ankole.

Museveni asked the Church to harmonise the Christian marriage with local traditions. He said African traditions on marriage were comprehensive and couples got deeply committed to their marriage vows. Wamala said marriage is a great institution that cuts across borders, regardless of colour, culture or religion.

Wamala was assisted by Bishop Emeritus Barnabas Halem’Imana and other religious leaders who included Anglican Archbishop Mpalanyi Nkoyooyo. Royal families from Buganda, Bunyoro, Busoga and Toro attended the ceremony.
