KASESE – The Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala, has fired 11 cops in the district. The district Police commander, Wilfred Kwesiga, in a December 31 circular, said the cops were retired on medical grounds.

MBARARA — James Tumusiime, the managing director of Fountain Publishers, has been elected to head a 22- member governing body of Mbarara University of Science and Technology. He replaces Prof Gilbert Bukenya. Jamada Luzinda, the former permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education, was elected deputy to Tumusiime.

Ssaku order
KAMPALA – Court has ordered Luzira Prisons authorities to produce the Electoral Commission accountant, Bethel Walusimbi Ssaku, charged with causing a sh643m loss to the Government. Ssaku, 46, was recently remanded on charges of conspiring with Lutalo Luggya and four others, to defraud the commission.

Xtians urged
MASAKA – Bishop John Baptist Kaggwa has asked Christian sects to work for unity and peace in the Church. Kaggwa was addressing a congregation from the Roman Catholic, Anglican and Orthodox churches during the ecumenical week prayers at Kitovu Cathedral. He was assisted by the West Buganda Anglican bishop, Dr. Keefa Kamya Ssemakula.
