THE Prime Minister, Prof. Apolo Nsibambi, was on Saturday introduced to the family of his fiancée, Esther Nakiboneka Kabuuza, at Bunnamwaya in Wakiso district.

Smartly dressed in a kanzu and a black jacket with matching trousers, Nsibambi left his Bulange residence in a green Pajero at about 1:30pm accompanied by his sisters, brothers, close relatives and friends, all clad in busuuti and kanzus.

Nsibambi’s 26-man delegation to his in-laws included state minister for Luweero Tim Lwanga, senior presidential adviser John Nagenda, and the deputy chairperson of the Public service commission, Joyce Kaddu.

Others were retired Bishop Misusera Bugimbi and his wife and Kampala businessmen Gordon Wavamunno and James Mulwana.

The team carried gifts for the family, which included beef, a she-goat and household items.

Nsibambi’s spokesman and brother, Prof. Pilkington Ssengendo, went through the Kiganda tradition of reciting the family lineage and verbal persuasions as the suitors faced Esther’s family and friends.

Her side included her mother, aunts, Buganda’s finance minister Eng. J.B. Walusimbi and Kampala lawyer Peter Muliira.

During the ceremony, a joyful Nsibambi placed an engagement ring on the index finger of a beaming Esther with the words ‘nkusibidd’awo’ (you are now engaged), amid applause from the guests.

Bishop Bugimbi was later asked by Nsibambi to bless the occasion before the guests were served with dinner.

Esther later served a cake to her guests.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to wed Esther Nakiboneka on March 1 at St. Paul’s cathedral, Namirembe.
