NCS administrative secretary in charge of athletics, Timothy Magala will be in charge of the sport until new UAAF elections are held.
National Council of Sports (NCS) yesterday named Magala head of an interim steering committee for Uganda Amateur Athletics Federation (UAAF).
The transition committee, instituted to occupy a power vacuum caused by the recently aborted UAAF assembly also has Margaret Ojara from the education and sports ministry, Rosemary Kobere, a former national athlete and sports science lecturer at Kyambogo University and former Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) secretary Sev Obura as members.
Another personality on the committee Matheniko Member of Parliament Samuel Abura was yet to confirm his readiness to serve.
NCS general secretary, Abbey Lutaya disclosed that aside from the proven managerial record of the members, impartiality had been another defining factor in the selection criteria.
“All these are veteran administrators whose experience will be priceless. Their neutrality was another element we took into consideration.”
He cautioned the warring factions in the UAAF not to interfere with the interim committee’s operations. “I want them to finish up quickly such that UAAF resumes normal operation.”
