AN incensed man heavily beat his wife after he discovered she abandoned her children and shop-keeping duties to join a band of federo agitators.
The Muganda woman identified as Najjuma, a mother of two, married to a Mukiga, Mubangizi, bolted and closed their retail shop the moment a trail of people passed Nakulabye on their way to the International Conference Centre on Tuesday.
According to a reliable source in Kimwanyi Zone, Najjuma at first resisted the urge to join the crowd, although all her neighbours had joined the chanting crowd in the afternoon heat. The trail was almost one kilometre away when she bolted and joined the branch-waving crowd in chants of “Twagaala federo, ne mailo akenda (We want federalism and the return of the 9,000 square miles of crown land to the Kabaka).”
Najjuma who returned at 5:30pm just before Mubangizi, a KCC law enforcement officer, could return, she hurriedly opened the shop and prepared his meal.
Everything could have gone well for her had the issue of the march not come up in the presence of her husband.
A customer at the shop, perhaps not aware of the sanctions on Najjuma, inquired from her how far she had proceeded with the crowd.
This question, coupled with Najjuma’s unease, prompted the short-tempered Mubangizi to inquire, and the truth about the matter dawned on him. To make sure that he was not mistaken, he checked the cash drawers to determine the sales and there was hardly any money.
Mubangizi flew into a rage and pounced on his wife, beating her into submission. Her calls for help quickly produced a crowd, which threatened to beat Mubangizi for “antagonising federo.” Ends
