EMMANUEL Opio, 12 years old, was the youngest candidate in last year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) in Lira district. He was among the best at St. Kizito Primary School in Lira Municipality. Opio scored aggregate 5.

“When I read from The New Vision, I was excited and my mum too. I expected to get a high first grade like what I have got. But this was through guidance from my parents, teachers and above all the Almighty God,” Opio said.

“My fellow pupils trounced me in class, but this did not deter me from being among the best candidates in the district. I prayed to God and indeed God heard my prayers and kept me in his right arm,” he added.

Opio said that since his parents are still alive, he believed that through God, he would excel in the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE).

Opio who skipped P3, wants to be an engineer. Although he put his choice at Lango College, he prayed that he is admitted to Mwiri College.

Opio’s father, Robert Obala a former bursar of Lango College and mother Margaret Obala said Opio had been a hard working boy both at home and school. They appealed to the district authorities to offer Opio a scholarship for him to continue his studies.
