THE residents of Lubango village have appealed to district authorities to kill crocodiles that threaten them.

This follows an incident in which a man identified as Joseph Othieno of Yolwa village in Tororo district was devoured by the reptiles when he reportedly went to Lubango landing site to bathe.

The LC1 chairman, Muhamood Mayanja, said the incident took place on Tuesday at about 4:00pm.

The victim had gone to visit his brothers who are fishermen at Lubango.

Mayanja said the body could not be recovered despite an intensive search mounted in Lake Victoria.

He said they were overwhelmed by the increasing number of people killed by crocodiles.

Mayanja said this year alone, crocodiles have eaten-up eight people at the landing site.

Last year the crocodiles killed 52 people.

The district fisheries officer, Fred Igoma, said the victims included children who were mauled by the reptiles when they went to fetch water at one of the landing sites.
