Over Sh280m Referendum Money
THE Public Accounts Committee on Friday ordered the Criminal Investigations Department(CID) to investigate the expenditure of sh280m given to the Multi-Party Referendum Committee (MPRC) for the referendum campaigns in 2000, reports Edith Kimuli.
The committee, chaired by Okullo Epak (Oyam South), also ordered for investigation of the officials of the Electoral Commission(EC) who released the money.
Sam Rwakoojo, the secretary to the EC, on Friday appeared before the committee but the MPs said his explanations did not satisfy them.
Rwakojo said the MPRC had received sh280m, but did not say who signed for it or present papers showing the payment.
He also said he had failed to trace Nelson Ocheger the first chairman of MPRC. Ends
