BOB Bibasa added another title to his fine collection after winning the National Rapid Chess Championship on Sunday.
The national champion drew two games to end the campaign unbeaten at Bellevue and Naranbhai Rd primary school in Jinja. He won his first rapid title.
Bibasa started off with victory over Emma Baligeya but faced stiff opposition later.
The Kampala player was stretched in draws against runner up Kawuma and another leading performer Emma Otela.
The 26-year-old Bibasa, who is self employed, offered a draw against Otela as the game looked destined for an equal ending.
The winner had a Bishop and seven pawns while Otela had a Knight and similar number of pawns.
“I had done all the hard work before, I did not want to strain myself,” Bibasa said.
Otela, 20, in his senior six vacation, showed great potential to beat Tony Magezi to the students’ award on tiebreak. Fatuma Ndagire, the only girl in the event, got two points in the Jinja Club organised event.
Jinja mayor David Wakudumira gave away awards to top performers.
