THE Minister for the Presidency, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, has said the Movement system should be strengthened.
“We want to strengthen the Movement. It should continue being broadbased and have dialogue with other groups so that we can have a common vision,” Bukenya said.
Bukenya was yesterday meeting Ma Wen Pu, the Chinese vice-minister for international liaison in the Chinese Communist Party, who is on a three-day visit to Uganda to study how the Movement system works.
Wen Pu said he came to cement the relations between the Movement and the Communist Party.
“We should be very careful on how we want to divert from the principle of broadbasedness and dialogue. The politics of where all the Chinese participate is better than the politics of confrontation that we have in Uganda,” Bukenya said.
His statements come barely two days after press reports said President Yoweri Museveni had agreed to free parties.
Bukenya said China had nine parties which cooperate with the ruling Communist Party.
“Parties in China work together and their main interest is the development of the Chinese people and not confrontation,” he said.
He also said three unique things about China were the good politics, care for their people and industrialisation.
Bukenya said the Movement must invest more in creating industries to provide employment.
The Chinese minister hailed the friendly relations between the two countries.
“Under the leadership of President Museveni, Uganda has attained remarkable achievements,” he said through a translator.
Bukenya said Uganda’s exports to China had increased by 30%.Ends
