Oloro, you got Mugeni wrong

SIR—I think Mr Ajepuh Oloro misunderstood James William Mugeni’s comments about making the late Dr Matthew Lukwiya a hero.

SIR—I think Mr Ajepuh Oloro misunderstood James William Mugeni’s comments about making the late Dr Matthew Lukwiya a hero.

Mugeni did not present a shallow argument as Aloro suggests. the reason his article caught the editor’s eye was obvious. After the death of Dr Lukwiya, there were other doctors working in Gulu. The hard conditions of work apply everywhere in this country.

Besides, Mugeni did not work in the same place with the late Lukwiya but happens to be one of the doctors who helped control the ebola epidemic. His argument associated with safety at work places applies to any health worker be it in Uganda or abroad.

Just as an example: should hand washing facilities be available only abroad where Ugandan doctors flee to for greener pastures? Why should gloves be in places of comfort and not in Gulu? working in Gulu does not mean taking risks because medicine has safety rules.
