This year's rugby really begins today when defending Bell Lager Rugby League champions MTN Heathens take on six-time winners Mango Kobs at Kampala RFC grounds at 5.00 pm.

This will be the first real test for both teams, their earlier wins against Rhinos and Nile respectively coming off against less than performing teams when the season opened two weeks ago. Heathens beat Rhino 68-0 while Kobs overwhelmed Nile 62-0.

“It should be an interesting meeting, and at least we are assured of some top flight rugby,” officials said. “If Heathens can pick up where they stopped last year, Kobs will have to dig even deeper to put up competition.”

The Heathens finished with a dream season last year, winning all the trophies they were to win without losing a game. Kobs, on the other hand, had won the League championship six straight times before the Heathens took over last year.

In other games, it was not confirmed whether the Makerere University's Impis would honour their encounter with Rhinos at Makerere. The students have had all their previous encounters postponed because their players were away on holiday.

In the Uganda Shield games, Boks will face Buffaloes at Kampala, Saracens host Sailors at Kyadondo, and it will be an all-Entebbe affair as Mongers take on Invaders. The Impis II versus Rams game is also unsure.
