THE Chief Justice, Benjamin Odoki, has said the problems the judges had with President Yoweri Museveni were solved during a meeting with him last month.
Odoki said Museveni reassured the judges of support for an independent judiciary.
He said the meeting held at the State House was attended by 30 judges.
Odoki was speaking during the Uganda Law Soceity (ULS) cocktail party to mark the opening of the new law year, last week in Kololo-Kampala.
“During our meeting with the Head of State, we solved the problem. The independence of the judiciary was reassured by His Excellency,” Odoki said.
He said the independence of the judiciary needed to be protected because the institution checks the other arms of government.
He hailed the Government for implementing 95% of the reforms recommended by the Law Reform Programme.
He criticised lawyers who ignore their obligation to offer legal aid.
Present were US ambassador Jimmy Kolker, the Inspector General of Government, Jotham Tumwesigye and the Constitutional Review Commission chairman Fredrick Ssempebwa. Ends
