THE Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) is still awaiting official communication from Mbarara FC on reports about their withdrawal from this year’s Nile Special Super League.
FUFA general secretary Haruna Mawanda said yesterday that the club had not confirmed whether press reports about their withdrawal were authentic.
He added that as far as the soccer-governing body was concerned, Mbarara’s matches were still on as scheduled till the club comes out with an official withdrawal statement.
“The club’s administrators are elusive and are yet to state their position.”
Mawanda acknowledged the club’s financial woes but he was surprised they would take such a decision without consulting National Football League Committee (NFLC) or the Super Division Club Association (SDCA) for help.
“If it’s true they withdrew, it is baffling that they never asked the NFLC or SDCA for help.
“It would be a shame for a club from a region endowed with business and political heavyweights to pull out due to financial constraints. May be these people could rescue it.”
Mbarara’s patron, Wilson Tumwine declined to comment and instead asked for an official report on the club’s predicament.

- NFLC fears that more clubs might quit the Nile Special sponsored super league this season, reports Fred Kaweesi.
According to NFLC secretary Justus Mugisha, fears are rife more clubs might be headed for the exit if districts and municipalities do not come to their rescue this season.
This follows financially crippled Mbarara FC’s league exit last week.
“We fear there are more upcountry clubs to opt out of the league. Districts and municipalities need to help these clubs”.
