The Police in Iganga are holding three traditional healers for allegedly stealing a human skull from a grave.

Residents of Nabirere village, Namalemba sub-county, recently arrested Fatuma Naigaga, Hussein Mugabi and Erias Mwaya.

The Police said they were allegedly found hiding the skull of the late John Mugabo in a wooden box. Mugabo, 90, was buried on January 4.

Iganga Police boss Elisam Mugisha could not say what the three would be charged with. He said inquiries were going on.

Mugabo’s relatives told the Police that the suspects reportedly went to the graveyard in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

They told the Police that their attention was aroused by footsteps around the graveyard.

“Residents converged after suspicious family members went outside and found Mugabo‘s remains abandoned next to the desecrated grave, with the skull missing.” Mugisha said.

Concerned residents immediately sought to mount a hunt for the culprits who had fled.

The three were arrested after the residents, who had earlier intercepted them while they tried to escape on bicycles, recovered Mugabo’s skull from a box that one of the traditional healers was carrying.
