The People’s Redemption Army (PRA) chief rebel recruiter, identified as Joshua Babu, was killed in battle with the Lendu militias, according to the captives now detained at Arua military barracks.
Gen. Maitre Kiiza, the commander of the FNI, the Lendu militia group who led the assault on PRA camps on March 10, said Babu was killed in the fighting at Aboro Hills in Kpandruma.
All the 22 captives interviewed said they were recruited from different areas by Babu, an officer of the defunct Uganda National Liberation Army (UNLA).
PRA is linked to renegade UPDF officers Cols. Samson Mande, Edison Muzoora, Anthony Kyakabale and former presidential candidate Col. Kizza Besigye. Besigye has denied links with PRA.
Maj. Godas Emery Sukpa, the deputy FNI commander, said the PRA rebels were captured following intelligence reports that they had established a camp near Kpandruma.
FNI defence minister Butch Tchedya vowed to intensify the hunt for PRA rebels, saying his area would not be used by anti-Uganda rebels.
