By Emmy Allio Being in charge of a peace programme in war-torn country like the DR Congo is no easy task. The South African government has intervened in the ongoing conflict between Uganda and Rwanda. South Africa and MONUC officials, the duo that are mediating the peace process in the Congo, arrived in Bunia on Tuesday in search of evidence of Rwanda government’s assistance to Ugandan rebels of the People’s Redemption Army (PRA). Uganda says Rwanda trained the PRA and transported them to Ituri and were to be used as a springboard to invade Uganda. The UPDF sector commander in Ituri, Maj. David Muhoozi, said the March 6 conflict which the rebel pro-Rwanda UPC of Thomas Lubanga initiated, was to act as a cover for Rwanda and PRA to invade Uganda. MONUC officials, Lt. Col. Sanjeev Prashar (India) and Capt. Philliman Mukwena (Mali) and South African lady officer, Smith Madeleen, met the overseer of UPDF operations in Ituri, Brig. Kale Kaihura and Maj. Muhoozi. Kaihura said the team that held over an hour meeting were third parties trying to resolve the conflict. Ends
