THE Police in Masindi have arrested Miirya sub-county tax collectors who allegedly tortured a 55-year-old man Erisa Kabuubi of Kyedikyo village Isimba parish to death.

The officials with the help of Miirya sub-county law enforcement officers and LDU’s on February 25 allegedly tortured Kabuubi splitting his lower lip up to the chin during a graduated tax operation to crack down on tax defaulters in the county. The New Vision reported the incident on March 3.

The arrested include Amos Bandoho, the acting sub-county chief, Christopher Hairora, the chairman LC1 Kyedikyo village and Aliganyira Babu, the Isimba parish chief.

“I think what has killed my brother is more than graduated tax, there is politics because he did not support the chairman during LC1 elections. That’s why they tortured him seriously,” Eric Kaheeru, the deceased’s brother said while speaking at the burial recently at Kyedikyo village.

The LC5 councillor for Miirya sub-county, Winfred Isingoma, who represented the district chairman, John Nyakoojo Majara, at the burial, said Masindi district local government had condemned the brutal act and action would be taken against the culprits.
