CAPTAIN Sadat Tebazalwa restored Ugandan pride after a false start to the Africa Zone V championships by inexperienced Jolly Katongole.

The upcoming boxer ignored home support to outpoint Ethiopian Sisay Sheberu and storm the light welter-weight final tomorrow at the National Assemblies Hall here.

The Bombers team is here courtesy of Kenya Airways who issued concession tickets.

Tebazalwa’s easy reach, fast jabs and good guard all worked against Sheberu, who managed to brave a standing count in the third round.

“The coach told me to go and fight and I really went out for honours,” said Tebazalwa after the contest yesterday.

The win ensured that Tebazalwa joined his two colleagues here on the team to the Africa Senior Championship in Cameroon in May.

Katongole, who was featuring in his first major fight failed to contain Endalkachew Kebede (Ethiopia).

“He (Katongole) is just gaining experience but he will be a good fighter in the future,” said coach Dick Katende.

Tebazalwa and his counterpart bantam-weight Attanus Mugerwa have a chance to win gold and hear their national anthem played.

  • Uganda might miss out on the Africa Senior Championship because of debts to the tune of $1,000 (sh2m)with the Africa Boxing Federation.

The Bombers were allowed to take part in the Zone V tournament despite a $400 debt in annual fees of $100..

“You should now know that you are now adults and stop being breast-fed,” Zone V boxing president David Agong told team manager Roboam Ssebikejje.
