War news hurts Oscars
Television viewers stayed away from the toned-down Oscar show Sunday night, with only 37 million Americans tuning in to watch Chicago win the prize for best picture, according to ratings figures issued Monday.

Film audiences over the weekend were also down more than 20% compared to the same period last year, according to studio figures. Researchers said that the war in Iraq was the probable cause for the low Oscar ratings.

Easter shows this weekend
Kampala – Easter is approaching and to mark the season, several churches and choirs will be holding shows. Kampala Singers are holding carol concerts tomorrow and on Sunday, March 30. The over 50-member choir will present works by George Frederick Handel, John Rutter and Faure’s Requiem. The choir will also present works by Sserukenya, renowned local composer of Church music. The Namirembe Cathedral gates are open for all because entrance is free.

New Matrix films made
The buzz is growing louder ahead of the May release of Matrix Reloaded, the sequel to the futuristic sci-fi thriller. A series of short films called The Animatrix hit theatres over the weekend, screening before the Stephen King thriller Dreamcatcher.

The series will eventually expand to a nine-part, 180-minute work that will expand on the universe inhabited by the Matrix heroes, led by Keanu Reaves and Laurence Fishburne.

Meg Ryan film held back
Against the Ropes, which stars Meg Ryan as a female boxing manager, has been postponed from its April 25 release because of fears that the ongoing war would damage its chances at the box office.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures was reluctant to buy advertising time to promote the movie because many TV networks are running commercial-free broadcasts to concentrate on war coverage.
