THE Atiak Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) death toll rose to 13 yesterday when three other Nile and Gateway buses passengers were reportedly killed. Five others were killed in the Vision pick-up truck. They included the company regional marketing officer, Jonathan Kibaale.
Dennis Ojwee reports that a UPDF convoy commander identified only as Second Lieutenant Opolot and three of his body guards were also killed
The Vision sales executive in the Gulu Bureau, Alex Icaya, yesterday confirmed that five people were killed in The New Vision vehicle which the rebels set ablaze.
Icaya said he was out of danger after a bullet wound on his head was stitched at Adjumani Hospital. He said the Vision truck was the first in the convoy of over 10 civilian vehicles that had the UPDF convoy commander on board.
One of the three passengers killed in one of the buses was identified as Beatrice Lakiyu and two other unidentified ladies. A Police constable identified only as Amigo attached to Pabbo Police outpost was also reportedly killed .
The convoy included Fuso and Isuzu lorries and private vehicles. It left at about 2:00pm on Tuesday.
The army spokesman based in the north, Lt. Paddy Ankunda, said six people had been confirmed killed,11 injured and two vehicles burnt.
The Adjumani resident district commissioner, Ahmed Awongo, said by Tuesday night eight dead bodies were at the Adjumani Hospital Mortuary.
At least 10 people were rushed to the hospital in critical condition, sources said.
Meanwhile, four civilians were injured in another LRA ambush at Loyo-Boo.
