PAUL Hasule will have to remedy the striking quagmire prevalent at Police if his dreams of that all-too-precious away-goal against Al Mehalla are to crystallise.
Uganda’s Cup Winners Cup representatives possess an acute deficiency of attacking options after Cranes’ striker Yusuf Kinene’s departure for professional pastures in Vietnam.
Kinene has been the beacon of light in Police’s indifferent start to this season, with his more accomplished partner, Geoffrey Sserunkuma falling prey to constant injury troubles. There is unlikely to be a repeat of his 18-goal season.
“Kinene’s absence came at the wrong time. However, our team’s strength in depth will ensure that we will solve this,” Hasule asserted.
They face seasoned Egyptians side Mehalla at the El Kobera stadium. Mehalla ejected Express last year.
Hasule, who is also national coach, revealed that in Nicholas Kikabi, the Ugandan debutantes possessed a tailor-made replacement for the stocky Kinene.
“Sserunkuma is still good and he might be assisted by Kikabi as an alternative.”
Hasule can count on the Cranes-ingrained experience of his defensive trio of Simeon Masaba, David Iga and Ausi Kaaya to prevent the all-familiar scenario of cricket scores Ugandan teams are prone to in Cairo.

Meanwhile, Police chief, Major Gen. Katumba Wamala has urged the club to make the force and Uganda proud by achieving success away.
Wamala said this while handing over playing kit worth sh10m to the players at Kibuli Police Training School.
“Show that your journey to this stage was no fluke and hoist the Police and Ugandan flags high.”
The squad:
