RESIDENTS of Morulinga village, Moroto district, recently named President Yoweri Museveni as their LC1 chairperson.

They said they did this because Museveni had greatly contributed to developing the area.

Museveni pitched camp in the village between November 2001 and mid 2002 for community mobilisation and the launching of the disarmament exercise in Karamoja.

The residents said their LC1 chairperson, Peter Yeno, should relinquish the seat for Museveni.

“No Ugandan president has ever come here, but Museveni and his family have. They have done a lot for us,” a resident said.

The first lady, Janet Museveni, recently donated seeds and agricultural equipment worth sh10m to the area.

The donation included 150 hoes, 150 jerycans, 1,200 seedlings, 800kg of serena sorghum, 400kg of beans, 200kg of cowpeas, 600kg of maize seeds and two bicycles. 150 households have benefited.
