VINCENT Tendwa’s (picture bottom) dream season continued yesterday when the bulky Kenyan struck for SC Villa in a famous 2-1 away win over Angola’s AS Aviacao.
But continental debutants Police FC were given a rude reception to African club competition when they went down 4-0 to Egypt’s Al Mehalla.
Tendwa, who scored the lone goal that clinched Villa the CECAFA trophy, was on the score sheet together with in-form midfielder Alex Isabirye.
The Ugandan champions simply need to avoid defeat at Namboole to qualify for the next round where they will face Ghana’s Hearts of Oak.
Hearts of Oak ejected SC Villa in 1999 while Sudan’s El Merriekh were the Jogoos’ conquerors last year.
In Egypt, the hero for the hosts was Akram Abdel Maged who struck twice while Muhammed Salam and Usame Ahmed added one apiece.
Paul Hasule’s youthful side managed to respond with a Geoffrey Sserunkuma strike that should keep alive their chances of a highly improbable comeback.
The Ugandan side can qualify for the next round of the cup if it whips Mehalla 3-0 at home.
On Saturday, Zambia’s Green Buffaloes beat Uganda’s CAF Cup representative Express.
The Red Eagles however scored the important away goal through Fred Okello, which hands their aspirations a lifeline.
Coach Leo Adraa sounded optimistic saying his side has the capacity to overhaul the deficit back in Kampala.
The second leg matches will be played on the weekend of April 25-27.
