UGANDA’S boys get a chance to grab the U-15 title that eluded them two years ago, when they start their campaign against Kenya at Kyambogo.
Six teams have assembled at Lugogo for the second International Cricket Council (ICC) East African age group tournament.
Tom Tikolo, the development officer for East Africa is also in the country to supervise the Easter holiday tournament that has attracted some of the finest developing umpires in the region.
Patrick Ochan (14) will lead the country’s bowling assault together with speed merchants Ronald Ssemanda (14), Duncan Mugabe (13), Roger Mukasa (13) and Geoffrey Nyero (13).
Uganda, who failed to lift the trophy in Dar es Salaam in 2001, seems set to avenge the humiliation after parading a blend of experienced youngsters for the boys U-15.
Captain Arthur Kyobe will be the main stay with the bat.
Kenya, the defending champions, have also lined an excellent team that has experienced Nelson Mandela and Peter Kituku.
“We are looking forward to the best results that will enable us go back home with honours,” Kenya’s coach Dan Okinyo told The New Vision.
In the girls category, experienced Molly Busingye, Emilly Nankumba, Frankilne Najjumba and youngster Naome Kayondo are expected to lead Uganda’s title campaign with the bat and ball.
“I am confident of good results,” U-18 girl’s coach Junior Kwebiiha said. Ends
