Scribe sues
KAMPALA — Journalist Bart Kakooza is suing a British Television station, APTN London, seeking to recover payment for a video tape containing footage of the 2000 Kanungu cult church fire. Kakooza, who is demanding US$6000 (about sh12m), has filed the suit under Media Plus, his news agency. He alleges he supplied the original tape to APTN in March 2000 after being approached by its News Editor, Dong McNeal.

Miyingo’s man
MASAKA — The manager of Dr. Kezimbira Miyingo’s milk factory, Charles Mayanja of Mbiriizi, was charged with alleged theft before Grade One Magistrate Julius Mwebembezi on Thursday. Prosecutor Constable Gudoba of Mbiriizi Police Post said Mayanja was arrested after the minister complained that he had stolen his machines.

Nayiga aids

Ebony riddle
KAMPALA — Investigations into the murder of an Ebony Star are still going on, Prosecutor Frank Tumusiime told Makindye Grade Two Esther Nasambu recently. Paul Katende, commonly known as Dick Walusimbi, was murdered a few moments after he had dropped off a colleague, Harriet Nalubwama, at her home in Mutundwe. Grace Katumba, 48, a former LDU at Gombe sub-county, was arrested last July in connection with the murder.

KCC seeks
KAMPALA — Kampala City Council (KCC) contacted Konoike Construction Company in Japan for traffic light spare parts on Tuesday, two months after the bulbs stopped functioning. The KCC authorities are uncertain when the Nakawa junction traffic lights will be repaired until Konoike, the firm that installed the lights, quotes the costs and dispatches the bulbs.
