UYD differ on MUK race
KAMPALA – A row has emerged among the Uganda Young Democrats over leaders of the group supporting different candidates in the recent Makerere University Guild elections. UYD national chairman Baswale Kezaala was strongly supported Yusuf Kiranda who won the race, while MP Michael Mabikke reportedly supported runner up Vincent Lugonvu, resulting in disagreements.

‘Mao not disowned’
KAMPALA – The Democratic Party (DP) yesterday refuted press reports that it had distanced itself from Gulu Municipality MP, Norbert Mao, following his disclosure to contest for the presidency on the party ticket. At a press briefing at the party headquarters, the DP executive and spokesperson, Jude Mbabaali, said the party had been quoted out of context. “The DP welcomed Mao’s intentions but he has to go through preliminaries before he is granted to stand on the party ticket,” he said.

Kazibwe for food meet
KAMPALA – The Vice-president, Dr. Speciosa Wandira Kazibwe, leaves for the USA today to attend the Global Summit on Food Production. Kazibwe, representing Africa on the global board, is to give a key note address at the Summit on the food situation in Africa, a statement issued by Mark Walungama, her Press Secretary, yesterday said.
