THE African Muslim Community (AMC) Juma Sect, and the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) are engrossed in a wrangle over ownership of a piece of land at Nateete near Kampala.

The AMC has sued the council and four others including the registrar of titles and the Uganda Land Commission.

Other respondents are, Abdu Noor Luyombya and Prime Women Investment Ltd.

AMC says UMSC is interfering with its property and it is seeking damages for the inconveniences caused, payment of interest and costs.

The suit was filed at the High Court, Nakawa on March 26 through Nsubuga, Mubiru and Co. Advocates.

AMC says it obtained the land from the colonial government in the 1940s, but the certificate of title was not issued due to disputes among the Muslim Community.

It alleged that the UMSC leased the land in 1988 and a caveat was put on it, but was later removed by Luyombya, the Secretary General of the UMSC.

They said the land was then divided into three plots and one was sold to Prime Women Investment Ltd. AMC says the council influenced Luyombya to remove the caveat.

The respondents are yet to file their defence.
