A WORLD Vision coordinator in the Karamoja region, Davis Chelangat, was on Wednesday shot dead by warriors.
Chelangat, on a peace and reconciliation mission between the Pokot, Karimojong, Turkana and Sabiny, was shot near Natumtaok, a notorious ambush spot about 47km on the Moroto-Nakapiripirit Road.
The incident has prompted World Vision to suspend, indefinitely, its relief operations in the Karamoja region and Kapchorwa district.
In a statement on Wednesday, Robby Muhumuza, the national director World Vision, said he was aware that the suspension of relief operations would have a negative impact.
“Many people need assistance, and that’s why we are there,” he said. “But our staff are being attacked, so it’s an awkward situation.”
The UPDF Third Division operations and training officer, Lt. Col. John Baptist Mulindwa, and the Moroto chief administrative officer, Luke Lokuda, said Chelangat was going to join his family in Kapchorwa town for the Labour Day holiday.
Suspected Matheniko Karimojong warriors also killed two pupils of Lia Primary School in the outskirts of Moroto town on the same day. The pupils were reportedly returning home for lunch when the warriors fired at them. Ends
